What are the symptoms of premenstrual tension syndrome?

It is very common during the first menstrual years and in young women. It has physical and emotional, i.e. psychological effects. It occurs in the week before menstruation starts and resolves after menstruation. This period is very long in some women. The effect varies according to the person. Sometimes it seriously affects the comfort of life.

What causes premenstrual tension syndrome?

Ovulation, hormonal irregularities, electrolyte irregularities, psychological reasons may be the cause. The exact cause is unknown and unexplained.

What are the symptoms of premenstrual tension syndrome?

Breast tenderness and enlargement, depression, feeling unwell, irritability, anxiety, anger, angry outbursts, mood swings, headaches, hot flashes, hypersensitivity to odors, bleeding gums, balance disorders, restlessness, sensitivity to odors.

How is premenstrual tension syndrome diagnosed?

Premenstrual tension syndrome is diagnosed by patient symptoms. The diagnosis is simple. It must be ensured that there is no other underlying disease. A detailed gynecologic evaluation should be performed and treatment should be started.

How is PMS treated?

Exercise, diet, vitamin supplements, depression treatment medications are used. Vegetables and fiber foods should be eaten, alcohol and smoking should be stopped. Sleep patterns are important. Birth control pills and antidepressant treatment are effective, but diet and exercise should be started first.
