What is ovarian cancer?
The ovaries are the female reproductive organ. They are responsible for the production of eggs and the release of hormones. Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynecologic cancer after cancer of the uterus.

What are the symptoms of ovarian cancer?
There are no symptoms specific to this cancer. It can mimic other diseases. When diagnosed based on complaints, it is usually in advanced stage, i.e. diffuse disease. It can progress insidiously without any symptoms. Therefore, annual gynecological follow-ups are important. In addition, complaints that may occur should not be neglected. These complaints include general complaints such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension, groin pain, constipation, diarrhea, frequent urination, loss of appetite.
Is there an ovarian cancer screening test?
There is no screening test. Only annual gynecological check-ups are important.
Does CA125 work as an ovarian cancer screening test?
It will not work. It is not the right approach.
How is ovarian cancer diagnosed?
A preliminary diagnosis is made when a mass is detected in the ovaries by ultrasonography in patients with complaints or during routine check-ups. If necessary, tomography or MRI imaging is performed to determine whether it is benign or malignant. PET-CT can be performed for the extent of cancer. Definitive diagnosis is made after surgical removal and pathologic evaluation of the mass.

What is ovarian cancer treatment?
Open surgery removes all cancerous tissue. Intra-abdominal lymph nodes are removed to determine the extent of the cancer. In other words, staging surgery is performed. After surgery, chemotherapy is given according to the extent and type of cancer. During surgery, the spread of cancerous tissues into the abdomen should be prevented and all cancerous tissues should be removed. The surgical team is important in the success of the treatment and prolonging the patient's life expectancy.

Can ovarian cancer be treated by closed method?
Only small masses can be removed with laparoscopic or robotic surgery. Removal of intra-abdominal lymph nodes is easier with the closed method and is very comfortable because there is no surgical incision. The patient is little affected by the surgery.
How is ovarian cancer monitored?
The first two years are completed in 3-month intervals and then in 5 years with 6-month intervals
