The reliability of colposcopy depends on the experience of the person performing it and the quality of the equipment. Therefore, the risk of missing or not finding a lesion is low. It is only performed on patients with lesions in the smear. It is not performed in every patient.
What do we do if the colposcopy is bad?
In the first place, an experienced person should perform colposcopy.
If the colposcopy shows high risk, that part of the cervix is removed and sent to pathology. She is followed up according to the pathology result. This pathology result is the final result.
However, if the colposcopy result is low-risk, smear follow-up is continued.
Is colposcopy normal?
It may be normal. This result means that either a lesion was missed in colposcopy or the smear was wrong and the patient has no lesion.

It is performed when the smear result of the patient whose cervical lesion is followed up is found to be high-risk. Colposcopy is performed according to the results of smear follow-ups, there is no specific time interval.
How long does colposcopy take and is general anesthesia required?
The procedure is short and general anesthesia, full sleep, is not required for the procedure. Rarely, some of our patients are put to sleep. Especially those who are afraid and have poor pain tolerance. The procedure is less painful. There is no bleeding. Small biopsies, small pieces, are taken from the cervix.
