Pregnancy is one of the most important and special periods of a woman's life. In order to complete this period in a healthy way and to closely monitor the health status of the baby and the mother-to-be, the pregnancy period should be under close medical supervision.
Pregnancy follow-up starts with the detection of pregnancy. After the baby's heartbeat is detected on ultrasound, some tests should be performed to evaluate the health status of the expectant mother. The purpose of these tests is to detect infectious diseases, systemic diseases such as diabetes and thyroid, anemia and blood incompatibility that may have a negative effect on both the expectant mother and the baby during pregnancy. In classical pregnancy follow-up, monthly follow-ups are performed. However, the first 24 weeks of pregnancy follow-up are of particular importance and all scans about the pregnancy and the baby are completed during this period. The baby is screened for genetic diseases such as Down syndrome (mongolian disease), defects in the spinal cord system, ultrasound detectable disabilities, as well as screening for diabetes that may occur during pregnancy. Once your baby's heartbeat is detected, a special pregnancy calendar should be prepared for you and all these scans should be performed in the specified weeks, respectively. When the patient has regular follow-ups, all scans are completed at week 24. From this week onwards, monthly follow-ups will include evaluations such as the baby's weight gain, the adequacy of the water, the examination of the well-being of the baby, and the type of delivery. Expectant mothers should also be closely monitored for pregnancy poisoning (pre-eclampsia). Until the 34th week of pregnancy, monthly evaluations will be performed at 15-day intervals. After this week, ultrasound examination as well as NST (non-stress test) will be guiding the assessment of the baby's well-being.
